What is a Smile Makeover?
A smile makeover is a cosmetic procedure done to improve the appearance of the patient’s teeth. It can be done to correct such flaws as the following:
• Discolored teeth
• Chipped or broken teeth
• Gaps between teeth
• Gummy smiles
• Misshapen teeth
Since a smile makeover is a cosmetic procedure, any dental problems like gum disease or tooth decay will have to be handled first.
During the initial consultation, our dentist will thoroughly examine the patient’s teeth. They will also take pictures and X-rays of the patient’s teeth and jaw to determine the patient’s candidacy and what the smile makeover will involve. Our dentist will then describe the various options, and they will show the patient a 3D image of the makeover’s expected results.
Common procedures used in a smile makeover include:
• Tooth whitening
• Dental bonding
• Tooth-colored fillings
What is Dental Bonding?
In dental bonding, the dentist applies a tooth-colored resin to a tooth. It is often done to strengthen a chipped tooth or improve the color, size and shape of a tooth. The procedure can take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and the patient may not need anesthesia. The dentist will scrape the surface of the tooth to make the surface rougher and help the resin stick to it. They will then apply the resin to the tooth and mold it into the desired shape. The dentist will use a laser or light to harden the resin and then trim and polish it, so it will have the same sheen as the other teeth. The resin can last for anywhere between three and ten years.
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots with a crown attached to them. They are used to replace missing teeth and to keep the jaw bone from degenerating after a tooth is lost. The implant is a titanium post that looks like a screw and is also biocompatible. That means the body won’t reject it, and the jawbone will grow around it as if it were a real tooth.
Our dentist will screw the implant into the jawbone and then stitch the area. The healing process, during which the post fuses to the jawbone, takes about three to six months.
Dr. Rinaldi will then take impressions of the patient’s surrounding teeth to make the crown that will be attached to the implant. The crown will then be attached to the implant.
